My son is claiming UC and ESA.
He has been submitting fit notes from his GP to the jobcentre, by hand, and ESA via the web. He has been unfit to work for many months and likely to remain so for many more due to NHS waiting lists.
Despite being unwell he is asked to attend the jobcentre every two weeks where he is asked about his circumstances and he invariably answers "no change". The agent ticks a box on the screen and he leaves.
Due to increasing mental health issues he is becoming more and more Agoraphobic and finds these appointments very distressing and increase his anxiety. He is on medication and attending therapy at present and awaiting assessment for ADHD.
Is this a subtle form of harassment? Can they legally do this?

Hi g7
As a matter of urgency you must change your forum name as it appears you have your email address opening you up to spam and other attacks, see

In answer to your question, I assume that your son is claiming NS ESA and waiting for an assessment. Whilst waiting, then the answer to your question is yes they can legally ask him to attend every two weeks, depending on what has been agreed in your son's claimant commitment.
If your son is having issues with attending the Jobcentre then he needs to inform his workcoach who can then make reasonable adjustments, it might make it easier if he has a letter from his doctor or his therapist explaining his condition, the letter may also help with the assessment when he has one.
