Reporting changes in circumstances to DWP (ESA support group)

Changes to my circumstances with evidence reported to DWP via tracked mail, received by them 21.3.23
The changes are that my two small occupational pensions commenced and one with a lump sum which took me over threshold limit. There will be an overpayment to pay back and a small amount the DWP will still pay me which keeps my entitled to housing benefit (had some advice from CAB) my government pension commences end of June.

I have not heard as yet from DWP and they keep paying me full entitlement. I find it extremely difficult to call them and have tried though desperation but can’t get through , my problem is I’m finding it difficult to budget for the changes as I have no idea what will be taken as overpayment. My condition makes me dyslexic around figures and maths. It is causing me so much distress. I am happy to pay all back that I owe to DWP from the lump sum but I’m concerned it is going to end up taking a larger amount that I anticipated as I didn’t anticipate it taking a long time , I am not sure if I’m spending too much it’s difficult to know I am having some caution but not having a clue is not nice I’m living in fear of it all. I have also informed housing and council tax benefit of the changes which may change my rent and council tax I’m not sure although I’ve been told I will get them in full until June when government pension commences ..the whole thing is really causing me concern.
Appreciate any help

Hi Unique1

All I can say to use is put aside some money in a savings account to pay any overpayment, if you put aside a bit more than you think you should repay, then treat that as a bonus for when you settle with DWP.

As to the DWP, you need to phone them first thing in the morning and leave the phone ringing whilst you do something else until they answer.

You can always write to the DWP reporting your change of circumstances, if you do write to the DWP, make sure that you keep a copy of the letter and send it by recorded delivery, as post can go missing, in which case it will be your word against theirs and you will not win.

Thanks Gary.
I did write to DWP weeks ago a recorded delivery, it was received by them ..

Because they are paying me I am now going over the threshold for any qualification for pension credit. And my circumstances are looking like I have a lot more in savings than i should due to the payments they are making each fortnight . So I can’t claim pension credit ..any advice appreciated.

Hi Unique1

We can't offer any advice besides what Gary has already said. You need to speak to the DWP or wait until they reply to your letter. They are the only ones that can sort this out for you.
