Hello, Holiday Rules, and Benefit payment increase. was created by kaygee14
Hello to everyone who is part of this group and forum. I just joined it today as a subscriber, after thinking about it for some time. Although I once worked for many years for a public service, I have been unemployed with depression/anxiety, and quite frankly feeling very alone and unimportant, as a long term benefit claimant! My best wishes to you all, and to Steve and the other at B&W
I am claiming UC with LCWRA status, and for some time, no commitments following medical assessment some time ago.
I have two questions please, which UC do not seem to be answering very clearly via my 'journal'.
I have not been abroad for a long tie, but later this month, I am going on holiday with a trusted friend, to celebrate modestly, my birthday. I will be in the EU for just 7 days. I am not clear on how this affects my UC payment (two elements), and exactly what and when, I should tell UC about this?
Secondly, I notice that a 10.1% increase is due to happen to my UC monthly payments. I am due to be paid tomorrow, but my 'payments' info on my account show that NO increase has happened yet. My assesment period starts/ends on the 6th. What is happening, and what should I do?
Kind thanks, KG.

Hi kaygee73
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
If you go abroad, you can continue to get Universal Credit for one month.
You must:
* be eligible for Universal Credit when you’re going abroad
* remain eligible for it while you’re abroad
* tell your work coach that you’re going
UC new rates will kick in from 10 April, but when you start to receive the increase will depend on when your benefit payment normally occurs. You need to look at your assessment period, if the increase is in your assessment period then it should be paid within 7 days at the end of your assessment period.
If you are unsure then contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation and they will take all your circumstances into consideration: advicelocal.uk

Thank you Gary for your reply. You say "If you go abroad, you can continue to get Universal Credit for one month." Are you saying that my UC claim will be closed, one month from the date I 'go abroad'?! That, I will 'only' continue getting UC payment the next month (June)? I am concerned and unclear about your answer. IF this is not the case, then I am still unclear about how my holiday abroad for a week, affects the amounts of money I receive from UC, as I originally asked. Can you please clarify? IF a 7 day holiday in the EU has NO affect on my UC payments, and does NOT terminate my claim, can you please clarify both of these points clearly. Thank you.
AS for the late UC payment increase issue, I am told that because my April assessment period started just before the 10th April, that rate increase only starts applying to my UC period May 6th - June 5th, meaning payment of it in June. Correct?

Hi kaygee73
What I was saying, if you are claiming UC and go abroad for more than a month then your UC claim will stop.
You need to inform your workcoach if you go abroad, even for one week.
It is not the start date you go from but the end date, your previous assessment period would have been April 6th to May 5th therefore I believe you should have been awarded the UC payment increase.
