Hi everyone

I am single and recive IR ESA support group, pip and housing benefit . My landlord evicted me and my local authority moved me to a hotel room as emergency accommodation. The hotel is located outside my bourgh but still my local authority take care of my housing benefit . They said it only require Chang of address and not considered as new claim. So please help me to know :-

1. Does these considered as change of circumstances. Could it lead to natural migration to UC?

2. I am in hotel temporarily. Do I have to inform the address of the hotel to DWP?

I would appreciate if you could give your comments/ advice ASAP.
Thanks

Hi Yesuf

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

As you are in temporary accommodation then you will come under HB regs, if you are re-housed outside your current local authority then you will have to apply for UC to get help with your housing costs.

If you are offered a property outside your local authority, you will to apply for UC before your ESA stops, you should then go straight on to LCWRA group.

We would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk .

Yes you need to inform DWP of the change in your address, even if it is temporary as you do not know how long temporary will last and your claim may be suspended.

2. Is there a deadline when to inform change of adress to the DWP ?

Hi Yesuf

Housing costs: specified and temporary accommodation

1) If you live in specified or temporary accommodation, your housing costs will be met by Housing Benefit instead of Universal Credit. This includes accommodation which meets your care need and supervision, domestic abuse refuges and homelessness accommodation.

2) It would depend on which department you are talking about, contact within one month, I would recommend that you contact as soon as possible after the even has happened.
