Hello all. I am looking to move in the near future. But staying within the same local authority. I have asked u this question before a long while ago and am not sure if the rules have changed. What i would like to know is if I just have to contact the housing benefit dept and give a change of address and stay on H/B. Or do I have to start a new claim for universal credit housing element. I have been told by u before that if I stay with the same L/A it’s just a change of address. I am a bit confused as I did check with the H/B dept and they said I had to claim U/C. There is no face to face customer service places to go anymore. They all work from home and have given me wrong advice on other thing before. So I called back again and was told by someone who knew their job that it was just a change of address. But I am just doubly cautious and asking for ur advice. Thank u for yr time. Kind regards.

Hi harmony1

The answer to your question is that it depends on where you live and your circumstances.

Some arears have now gone live and certain claimants now have to apply for UC.

We would advise you to seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation, they will be able to give you the correct local advice; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk .
