On Contribution ESA and caliming state pension, do I have to tell ESA/DWP

Hello i recieve contributory ESA and have claimed State Retirement pension from the end of this month. Do I have to tell the ESA people that I have reached state pension age or will my ESA automatically stop? Do the pensions department tell them I have calimed it anf from what date?

I reach SRA on the 25th of this month so I'll give it a couple of weeks. I'm due a normal payment on 17th so should I wait until after then to call the call centre?

Don't forget that benefits are paid in arrears, so you will still be due the ESA from 17th to 24th. I personally wouldn't do anything until you have received your first state pension payment, by which time you should know whether they have paid you your last ESA payment covering 17-24, because it will be different from the amount you normally get. The changeover is supposed to be automatic but the DWP aren't always on the ball . I would never chose to phone them unless I absolutely had to, because the waiting times on their help lines is so long and you have no guarantee that they won't just cut you off! Hope it all goes smoothly for you - I'll be in the same position as you in 10 months.
