Hi everyone

Can someone please confirm that as an existing DWP appointee when claiming PiP for the disabled person it is the appointee who attends any assessments (virtual as well).
I ask because the disabled person refuses to take part in the process as they say they are not disabled, this being a key part of their condition, refuse to see any G.P. for a referral and even try to have me removed as appointee despite DWP telling them they need one. Seriously, if I wrote a story about my situation no one would believe it.
:S

Hi Martski

I would contact DWP and explain your situation, also check that they have make the disabled person as vulnerable on their system, they can put a sticky note on their file. www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits

Quite often they usually want the person there in person but this is not always possible.

Thanks for your reply Gary.

DWP already know, in fact they tried to set up a corporate appointee despite myself already being the appointee. Disgraceful.

This means I'm battling the disabled person, who won't admit being disabled, and DWP who have no idea how to deal with this scenario - or probably just don't want to help.

I've had two different experiences, PIP for my son they insisted that he was present but for my daughter they didn't. I think it depends on the person making the assessment tbh. For my son it was a physio (with no obvious understanding of ASD) and for my daughter it was a LD nurse who obviously had experience of the difficulties.
