PIP assement was created by fitzk
Hi, I’ve just had my assement, it was quite brutal tbh. The question were designed to catch me out a lot. I have severe osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease in my spine. My mobility is so limited, as I limp and in lots of pain. I don’t leave the house unless someone is with me, due to the pain and leg weakness. I was asked about planning journeys and following them- i replied i don’t do that due to not going anywhere without someone. She said it’s not mobility it’s more cognitive. But it’s both surely? I said i can follow a sat nav, but it’s moot point as i don’t go anywhere with i out a person so i don’t do this. Do you think they will say I’m ok and award zero points. I made it clear i don’t go anywhere without a person.
Thanks for the guides, they did help me prepare.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Fitzk
I'm sorry your assessment was a brutal one.
Regarding the planning and following a journey - the assessor was correct - it's not about mobility - that is dealt with in the next question. Our Guide to PIP claims and Reviews says:
"This is probably the most confusing of all the PIP activities, but it can lead to an award of the
mobility component all by itself, so please take your time to decide if it might apply to you.
It looks at your ability to reliably plan a journey and also your ability to actually undertake a journey.
It is not intended by the DWP to include the difficulties you have with the physical activity of walking,
these are covered in the next activity, Moving around, although falls due to seizures may be
relevant."
I can't tell you what they might award you because I'm not an assessor and don't know your case or difficulties.
You can call the DWP 48 hours after your assessment and ask for a copy of the assessor's report - PA4. This will give you an idea of what your award might be.

Thank you for your reply. I was quite firm that I could plan a journey but not do it without someone. I was also asked how long would it take me to walk 3m. I will ask for the PA4.
