Housing Benefit When Migrating Over to UC

Hello. Please can you tell us..Is it likely that we will have to pay 2-3 weeks full rent whilst the Housing Benefit element is added to our ESA to UC claim so that we do not get behind with rent payments and is this paid back to us if that was to happen? Thanks.

Hi Eveshell

When you apply for UC you housing benefit will stop. Not sure what you mean added to our ESA.
With UC you get housing element, UC is usually paid one month in arrears.

When you apply for UC, it is all about the timing, we would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk . You may also be eligible for a two week run on for you HB.

Do get advice on this. Yesterday I received a bundle of letters in the post from our council Housing Benefit dept. We were overpaid nearly £200 pounds which they want back (what a surprise). We migrated to UC on the 13.08 but the council continued to pay HB until the 25.09 (I think, haven't got the letter infront of me now). Why the council continued paying us HB after the 13.09 I do not know. So be warned.
