SEPARATION was created by CHUNKY
I claim esa conts and PIP.

At present I am living at a different address.

I am no longer with my partner.

Does anyone know at what stage you have to inform the DWP about this separation? eg is it when you legally divorce

Thanks in advance.

Hi synapse321,

If you look at the declaration you sign at the end of the form when you claim Benefits it says that you will report any change of circumstances promptly and that they have the power to enforce a civil penalty if not . So to be on the safe side I would report your change of address and partner as soon as you can. It says on the form you can report the change by phone or in writing.

Hope this helps,
David

Thank you for your swift response.

I will get onto it ASAP.

Do you think it will trigger a review of my ESA / PIP?

Kind regards

When i separated i informed them roughly right away ,has we had no intension of marriage reconciliation , we ended up getting divorced .
I was on Contribution based Esa ,once i informed them i started getting a top up of income related Esa to go with my contribution based Esa .
The only problem with that may be for you could be
( income related being phased out )change of circumstances & being moved to Uc .
If your relationship is definitely over & not going back to your address you will have to tell them sooner or later .
Sorry for the doom & gloom .

Hi synapse321,

No the changes you have mentioned won't trigger a PIP or ESA review unless you were to tell them there have also been significant changes to your health.

Thank you for your reply.

Is it best to do it in writing in case they challenge me on the phone.

If I do it in writing do I include my partners details eg name national insurance number address.

Is it best to send it my recorded delivery and keep a copy of the letter?

Kind regards
