Mandatory Reconsideration was created by naanaa
hi everyone. it’s been a long time since I’ve had to go through an appeal for my daughter’s physical independence payment and according to the person I spoke to on the phone yesterday things have changed since 2020.
I actually called to ask for an extension to the 1 month deadline as I deal with her paperwork and i have just had an operation so was seeking some additional time. I was told they don’t do extensions over the phone now, but to just put a covering letter explaining why it’s late. (My cynical brain has an idea of why they don’t give extensions now).
I will be sending written a request for the mr but I was also told that when I’ve sent it I have to keep an eye out and when I can see they’ve received it, I need to ring them and then register the mr request?
I said I presumed as previously, that the letter is registering the request, but he said no. Also if I ring when I can see it’s been received, but it can’t be seen by the person answering my call, I need to call again until it’s been uploaded on their system.
Is this correct? If so I can only see this as a delaying tactic and to possibly talk over the mr on the phone, which were not interested in doing, having done a detailed letter for the mr request.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi naanaa
I have always managed to get an extension over the phone when I have needed one, although I contact DWP before the deadline date, you may want to contact DWP again and ask someone different for an extension.
You can complete a CRMR1 form www.gov.uk/government/publications/chall...ork-and-pensions-dwp and send it in by recorded delivery. I would check when the item was delivered and then contact DWP to check it is on the system.

Hi Thanks. No, I haven't had a problem in the past either and this is within the deadline, so we're not late or anything.
Yes, always send by recorded delivery or even Special sometimes, but I ust wondered if it was an actual stipulation, that you then ring and register the Mandatory Reconsideration request, once it's been received. Seems a little odd .
