ESA & Housing benefit -MIGRATION TO UC was created by Charlie
Hi ,i'm a full time carer for my disabled sister who receives ESA , housing benefit and PIP, she has just received her migration notice from ESA to UC , i will be completing the form for her as she is incapable of doing so herself, i am familiar with migrating to UC from ESA and income support , but i need some advice on what is required to migrate from housing benefit, she has a private landlord where she has lived for over 20 years , she does not have a current lease , as the landlord has just let the rent carry on for years , he is rarely in the country as he works as an interpreter for nato , and he spends a lot of time in poland , what i want to know is ,do i need some evidence of the rent for the UC form , or is just the housing benefit letters , that my sister has with her housing benefit numbers on good enough to complete the UC online form for her to migrate from housing benefit , she until January 10 2025 to complete the migration, i hope someone can help me , Thank you

Hi Charlie,
UC won't accept the Housing Benefit letters as proof of housing costs.
You will need something in writing from the landlord or agent and it doesn't have to be current.
UC also ask you for proof of rent payments and this is usually a bank statement showing payments going to the landlord or agent.
Hope this helps,
David

Hello,
On my online bank statement, on the search button on that page, I can put a key word, for instance, the name of the account my rent is going to.
And then it can show all the payments I have made to the landlord, without showing all the other transactions.
This is something you may wish to consider if for instance, you want to go back a few years (using the online calendar) without printing too many pages, and keeping all other information confidential.
Of course, if one is asked me to provide the last full bank statements this is something I would provide them with.
But in specific circumstances, I myself using the approach above, have printed out
- only the rent payment for a certain period
- same with only the esa payment
- and child benefit
- and child tax credit
- and pip
I hope this may be helpful to you or anyone.
Best wishes.

Hi thanks for the info, but she has the rent paid direct to her landlord , through housing benefit, so i don't quite understand , how she'll show proof of the rent going into the landlords account ? , apart from him giving her his bank statement which he'll never agree to !, he'll be ok with proving evidence of the rent like a letter etc.

Hi Charlie,
Yes, a landlord's letter will be fine to confirm current rent payments.
