My wife has received ESA since it was introduced and was on incapacity benefit before that. In June of this year we got a letter from Health Assessment Advisory Service with form ESA50 to fill in and return by 19th July 2024. This was done on time, filled in with help from your guide, and returned with about 2weeks to spare.
We have heard nothing since. Is it likely, given that over 3 months has passed since the deadline, that no further action is required. Or do they just have a very big backlog and haven't processed it yet? Should we chase it up. I assume they must have received the form or, presumably, they would have chased it up or even stopped payment.

ESA has a large backlog. I would not assume anything. You have no idea where your form is in the process, and you could still be invited for an assessment. Three months isn't a very long time, though I'm sure it feels like it is for you and other claimants in a similar position. However, waiting times vary, and we have had members who have waited more than 6 months for a response and some more than a year. The only way to know what is happening is to ring and ask. Your other option is to wait until you hear something.
