Replied by VIA on topic UC Managed Migration - A few questions
Hello David,
I am always grateful for your help.
Do you know if when Housing Benefit stops on the day we submit our new UC claim, and we then receive a lump sum of the 2 weeks Housing Benefit, what happens when the 14th day payment is on lets say a few days prior to our normal housing benefit payment date.
In my case housing benefit is paid direct to my bank account every two weeks, but in arrears.
If we imagine the following scenario for my understanding purposes:
- I submit UC Application on 1 December
- on the 3rd December I get my normal 2 weeks housing benefit payment
- on the 14th day from the UC submission
ie on the 14th of December, as my housing benefit is paid in arrears, then on the 17th of December ( that would have been my usual HB 2weeks payment date) or on the 14th of December, I should get a payment to cover me 14 days only, that will cover me from the 1st of December till the 14th of December?
I appreciate your help.
Many thanks and Best Wishes

Hi VIA,
I cannot answer your question and I expect different Local Authorities will have different payment cycles.
I would phone Citizens Advice Help to Claim as they have a lot of experience in this area.
Let me know how you get on.
David

Hello David,
I am sorry for asking you, I had already asked the help to claim adviser a few weeks ago.
She had told me that I would get the first payment close to the day she recommended I submitted my claim, and also told me that around 2 weeks later I would get another payment, because she said my housing benefit was paid in arrears, but I thought maybe it was too good to be true to get 2 payments and wanted to double check.
When I have to migrate and go through the migration process with them, as they told me I could fill the form online with them the help to claim adviser on the phone helping me and guiding me, I will know more and I will keep you updated.
As I think it is important for us all to know, if we get 1 payment of 2 weeks or 2 payments of 2 weeks after we submit the UC Claim, and that would be because housing benefit seems to be paid in arrears in my case. I do not know if that is the case for fellow B&W members.
Thank you very much David.
Best wishes

Hi VIA,
Yes it would be useful to know the answer to your question. As a general rule Housing Benefit is awarded from the Monday following the 'date of claim. It is important to avoid overpayments as obviously they will need to be repaid.
