Trouble getting the PIP application started

My daughter needs to have her PIP in place in time to attend Uni next year as it will help with getting the uni on board with room allocations and extra support etc.

However, we've been trying for a year and have not got through the first hurdle. We sent off the 1007 form in January, and it was never received. We requested a replacement form, and sent that off a few months back, but have heard nothing.

My daughter keeps calling them to ask what's happening, but every time she gets started on a conversation with someone who begins to try to help her, they cut her off. It's starting to feel deliberate.

Can anyone give us some advice? I think they are saying that the second form has been received but has not been entered into the system yet. Do we just wait? Is there any ombudsman we can complain to?

Thank you

Hi SarahMJ

I'm sorry this has happened to your daughter. Although I'm sure it feels like people are deliberately cutting your daughter off - but I doubt that is the case. The phone system has always been patchy. This is a new claim - so it should be a priority.

You need confirmation that they have the form and it is on the system - this should not take months! I would not wait - I would ring and ask what the current time frame is for her form to be processed. They should at least give you an estimate. Once it has been processed, they will decide what type of assessment she needs, which can take some time. Any time you try to contact the DWP, you should keep a record of the date and time and content of the conversation (if she manages to get through) and the time if the call is suddenly cut off.
