Question about UC claim form was created by Anneb
Very good to see the screenshots of pages from UC that Citizens Advice Caerphilly have done which is posted in your Migration from ESA to UC latest guide. It’s very useful.
Also thrown up a question in the Education and Training section of the UC To Do list which I’ve not read anything about before. It asks for “details of local authority care" which includes care from “your parents with support from social services” and “supported living” and asks for details from age 14. It says "If you have lived in care, your work coach can tell you about the support they give based on your needs.” Any idea exactly what that means ?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Anneb,
It relates to the special rules for care leavers and the Care Leaver Covenant. Care leavers have been given help such as being exempt from the Housing Costs Shared Accommodation rate. Coincidentally the government has just published a full guide regarding assistance for care leavers.

Thanks for explaining that and for the link to the government paper David.
That isn't relevant to my son then - his living with us till he was 28 with us being specified as his carers - as we still are even though he's not living with us now, and his living in supported accommodation for some time, aren't the same as someone who has "been in care" !
I might as well ask one more question please - in the medical condition section of the To-do list, it has a question about treatment. What do they mean by "treatment" ? Is it a specific course of treatment relevant to the claimant's disability or problem ? Some treatments might be ongoing. But for some conditions there is no treatment.

Hi Anneb,
The definition of treatment covers a very wide area. Everything from surgical intervention to palliative care.
Which health conditions have no treatment ?

Hi David, you ask what conditions have no treatment - Autism has no treatment. Mental health team won't help my son because he has autism. My son has severe anxiety and OCD which are all linked to his autism but gets no help. He had some support from an ASD service but that was limited to 10 months due to the limited funds they got from the NHS. The GP requested more help from ASD service but got none. Social services only give social care, they can't give any autism specific help. He sees GP every few weeks as she is helpful.
My son has IBS but there's no real treatment for that other than dietary advice. He has asthma too...he is on an inhaler which will be for life.
