Got dreaded ESA to UC migration letter was created by Benson
Hi. I am on ESA in support group, I don't get any other benefits, I am in Dorset area. I today got the dreaded brown envelope with the migration letter that gives me 3 months. I have read as much information as I can about what to expect but I just have some questions.
1. I notice on this forum people saying even though in the support group they are still being summoned to the Job Centre for ID checks. What IDs can I give when signing up for UC that might stop me getting this summon ? I have a driving license and debit card but my passport is way out of date.
2. Do you know of anyone in the support group who didn't get called to the job centre ? If I don't end up having to go to the job centre is it guaranteed I will then have to speak to them on the phone instead ?
3. Why can't the government automate this changeover ? It is still all via the DWP so surely all the same department. I hate to sound cynical but I think they are doing this to hope some don't bother.
4. On all the info I saw online people like me who only get ESA benefits weren't meant to get a letter until mid 2025. Does the fact I got one now mean I am likely having to do another WCA 3 months from now ? My last one was 5 years ago. It just seems odd timing as my WCA renewals used to always be around February.
Thanks for any help !

Hi Benson,
To answer your questions--
1) Do not use your passport for the automated UC ID check. You may get through using your driving license.
2) Yes. If push comes to shove you can request a Biographical ID Test which I have discussed with other members.
3) I expect it will be automated one day but then machines can go wrong and make worse errors than humans.
4) The current Migration has nothing to do with WCA timings. It was brought forward by the last Tory government. Keep an eye on the News section of the BenefitsandWork website.
