Does anyone know if I'll lose my severe disability premium was created by SashaJ
Hiya,
I'm in he process of moving to UC from ESA. I'm also on PIP and was previously getting a severe disability premium component.
My son (the only person living with me) turned 16 and went into employment some months back and my benefits changed (child tax credits and child benefits stopped). They said I'd continue to recieve the severe disability premium until he was 18 (whether he was in employment or not).
Does anyone know what happens on UC?

Does anyone know what happens on UC?

Hi SashaJ,
You will lose your SDP altogether when you have migrated to UC. That is why you should be compensated with what is called Transitional Protection which means an amount will be added to your UC to bring it up to the level of your previous Benefits with SDP. Have a read of the BenfitsandWork guide - Move to Universal Credit (managed migration): Transitional Protection
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/?dlp=67487f8364f45
There are a few areas where people can be better off with Universal Credit such as with Non Dependent Deductions. These are deductions from your Benefit because you have a child over 18 in your household and you are renting.
