Is it worth going through WCA for LCW if already working 16hrs a week?

I recently migrated from WTC to UC. Ive just been sent a UC50 form. I am autistic and struggle with my mental health. I get PIP lower rate care. I manage to work 16 hours a week with a supportive employer who makes good reasonable adjustments for me. I find working very challenging but am also proud of myself for getting to the point where i can do some work. Ive tried working more hours in the past and have been unable to sustain it for long.
The UC50 form is making me feel very stressed and Im just not sure i can manage going through all the trauma of the process on top of managing working.
I guess i am questioning what difference/benefit it will make if I can get into the LCW group. If I don’t submit the UC50 form will I be pressured to do more work than I currently do?

Hi Lucas,

I am in the LCW group myself, and have been for the past 2 years. All I am expected to do is exercise for my mental health, and some online courses to help, but having had a long term job of nearly 20 years, and 2 PT jobs that lasted a matter of months, I haven't been forced back into work because of the challenges I face. I am also in the process of a LCWRA upper tier tribunal case. May be best to submit the UC50 form, but this is your own personal decision - but I would also be honest with your work coach about how you're feeling towards completing this, and possibly the working hours situation.

Hope this helps, Chris.

If you in the lcw group you get a work allowance, meaning you'll get extra universal credit, (which. Is up to £300 a month) and you'll be less exposed to sanctions, there are extra capital disregards and you may qualify for passported benefits such as help with health costs people with lcw are not required to increase their earnings and you won't be pressured to do this, so tldr it's worth having a wca

Hi Freedricka,

I wasn't aware of the capital disregards? Could you please explain.

David

Hi David, Property is disregarded as capital where a close relative or former partner lives in it and has lcw, even when the claimant themselves does not live in it.

Hi Freedricka,

Thanks for reminding me of that. It is usually an occurrence when someone on Benefits such as UC inherits a house and the exemption applies in the manner you state. It is the person who lives in the house who must have LCW/LCWRA not the Benefits claimant.
