Good morning I live with my father in law who has Alzheimer's and breathing difficulties We want to claim a carer's allowance BUT on the government website it states that he could lose his council tax amongst others like the severe mental payment with his pension credit As the carers allowance is only approx £80 pw the council tax on the main house is just under £4K Is this factual? because it is a no-brainer in terms of which benefit is worth more When my father in law was healthy he was the main carer for his wife and they still received the council tax reduction so have things changed? Any help or advise would be most welcomed. Thank you all for your time
They should be able to advise you in relation to the benefits situation. I would also contact your local Citizens Advice or Welfare Rights centre about this, as it is quite an in depth situation.
