WCA Telephone Consult no longer needed question... was created by Steven
Hi all,
I'm hoping for some advice / guidance on a particular issue I'm having with UC.
After migrating over from TC last year around April / May, they asked me to have a WCA (telephone assessment) but as I wouldn't be able to cope with speaking to a stranger on the telephone due to my mental health - anxiety, depression and such, I contacted my GP and they wrote me a letter stating that I am currently under their mental health teams' care and that I would not be able to cope with this telephone assessment which I then forwarded to them.
I never heard anything back initially and the telephone assessment date passed (with no telephone call) then shortly after this, I got a letter stating that they had cancelled the telephone assessment and that I no longer needed to do it as they have received more information and an assessment is no longer needed.
I'm not sure what the above means apart from the obvious but I've had no further correspondence from them and this was 3 months ago. I have left messages on our journal querying this but they responded telling me to wait for the DWP's response - this was before Christmas.
I'm wondering if anyone else is / has been in a similar situation and if so, could you advise on what has happened.
Thank you for your time.

Hi Steven,
Thanks to your GP's intervention you have been excused a WCA interview and the DWP are conducting a paper based assessment. There are backlogs with these, some lasting several months but this does not signify anything and your payments if awarded will be backdated.
UC Journal entries don't usually get to the right people as they usually end up with a Jobcentre Work Coach ( don't deal with WCAs ) or a Case Manager in a UC Service Centre ( mainly supervise UC payments ).

Thank you for your response and for clarifying that the timescale can go into the months - I'm currently approaching 13 weeks since I received the letter.

i believe now, the phone assessment for me was also wrong, it should have been a physical face to face - my wca lasted just 11 mins which has determined the wrong descision on their part..now 9 months later after a MR in 2024, the dwp changed their mind to say i am fit .. yet i proved to them i am not - they have just ignored and disgaurded my evidence so i have to go through more stree and anxiety at a tribunal.
whenever that will be, in the meantime, i have to look for work i'll never be able to do and who wants a 58 year old disabled man who can't show up at 8am?..or face sanctioning leading to rent arrears which ultimatley leads to eviction..at 60 i fear i'll be just another homeless statistic for the local authority to deal with.

Hi chas,
I have made some comments in your other post.
Also the rent element of UC is not sanctioned so that will be paid as normal.
If you were to be sanctioned you could apply for a UC Hardship payment.
The Work Coach cannot Sanction you arbitrarily. You are allowed to put forth your side of the story and that goes to a Decision Maker outside of the local Jobcentre.
