Switched onto UC and New Style ESA after migration

Hi.

I received another ESA payment today which surprised me as I thought the payment I received two weeks ago was my final one after migrating over to UC. I rang the DWP and asked about it. They said that I had been placed on New Style ESA which I’d receive every two weeks but would then be deducted from my Universal Credit. Is this OK? I’ve never heard of this before.

I won’t lose any money from my UC having both benefits will I? Also the previous payment which was supposed to be my final ESA payment which I received a fortnight ago won’t be deducted from my UC, will it? It was my understanding that after applying for UC that you receive two more legacy benefit payments which don’t have to be paid back.

Thanks

Hi LeedsRhino75

Am I right in thinking that the 2 weeks run on of ESA was a smaller amount than the continuing payments of ESA ?

Hi David,

What should have been the final ESA payment was the same amount as it’s always been.

Todays payment was less than usual.

Thanks

Hi LeedsRhino75

You say today's payment was less than usual. That would make sense as you are now only receiving the New Style ESA and not the top up. Instead you get a monthly payment of UC.
