PIP Complicated was created by Gladioli
I am supporting someone who made a claim for PIP but didn't complete and return the PIP2 form. He has been contacted with a date for a telephone assessment. I assume that they will ask him for details of his medical professionals, prescriptions etc as they won't have this information so that the assessment is likely to be a long one. He has some medical evidence and isn't sure whether to post this to PIP before or after the phone call? He has recently had a major operation and has only been back at home a short time. Will he be asked questions about how he is now and how he was before the operation? The operation may improve his mobility but he won't know this straight away. Will PIP take this into account ? He is worried that he may get fewer points as PIP will assume that his mobility will get better over the coming month.

Hi Gladioli

If he didn't fill in the PIP2 form, but now has medical evidence he should send it in ASAP. You also need to look through our Guide to PIP claims and Reviews benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip, so he can be ready for the sorts of questions they will ask him. (They will always try and catch people out, and he will undoubtedly be asked at least one curveball question, such as what was the name of his secondary school or something equally stupid!)

I can't confirm what they will ask about the operation nor what an assessor will consider - they are a law unto themselves. Make sure that he requests for the assessment to be recorded, and if he can, he should do a covert recording.
