managed migration issue was created by don_beard
I'm currently on ESA (support group) and am about to do managed migration to UC. I've got until the 15th to start my claim for UC but have been having problems with my illness for the last 4 months so it's turned into a last minute thing.
Here's my problem: I haven't been able to get an appointment to see a GP since Covid started so my medical info isn't current. I've had moderate/severe M.E. since 2009. I'm still struggling to get an appointment so I can get blood tests done and get back on meds. I don't have photo ID so I can't get access to their online services so I'm stuck with having to call at 8.30am. Problem is I'm rarely awake at that time as I've been stuck with an inverted sleeping pattern for a few months and I'm asleep for half the day. Unhelpfully it's the daytime I'm sleeping through.
So, what I'm asking is do I need to get an extension for starting my claim so I can try to see a GP first and get my info updated so it's current before I start my claim, or am I ok with just starting my claim now? Does my medical info need to be current when starting my claim? I thought there was going to be some kind of medical exam like when applying for ESA but after checking your migration guide it doesn't look like that happens? I'm a little confused right now.
At what point do the DWP get in touch with my GP? Do they do that anymore or is it all up to the claimant now? It's probably going to take a month or two to get all the messing around with a GP done.

Hi don_beard
To answer your question - Does my medical info need to be current when starting my claim?
The answer is No. You are in the Support Group and that status will continue until you are reviewed by another medical which is termed a WCA ( work capabilities assessment ). The DWP have postponed reviews at present for claimants in your situation. You do not have to report to the DWP the results of blood tests etc.
Universal Credit Managed Migration is completely separate from the health reviews and WCA's. The DWP will not get in contact with your GP. So in my opinion you do not need to ask for an extension. I would advise you use the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service and the phone number is on page 2 of your Managed Migration letter. Here is a recommendation of the Citizens Advice service from a member -

Let me know how you get on.
