Any advice about UC WCA for 65yr old due to retire in 4 months? was created by chezza1959
I was my 105 yr old and 79yr old bother's carer until the 2nd Jan (Mum) and 8th Jan 2025 (brother), when they passed away. I did the right thing and informed CA Allowance unit, as soon as. I am in receipt of UC with transitional protection as I have recently migrated from Income Support and also PIP.
DWP wasted no time and made Commitments appointment for me for 4th Feb. I informed them that I was in the process of arranging two funerals at that time and was possibly at one of the lowest points in my life, so they postponed it until the day after my brother's funeral.
I also now have an appointment on 26th with work coach. I have asked twice now about what has happened about the UC50 I submitted end of last September. First advisor told me letter would be posted in journal when decided, but 2nd one gave me a number to call SERCO for update. Did so and was told I needed a video assessment and booked a date for it then. Did wonder when SERCO would have got round to letting me know, though.
I am due to retire on 3rd July this year and things will be difficult between now and then, financially. Can anybody give me any advice about these various appointments I need to attend, but in particular the WCA?

Hi chezza1959
The good news is that your Transitional Protection should mean that your income from Benefits is topped up this year. I assume you are claiming UC as a single person which means that UC will end in July when you receive your State Pension. You can put in a claim for the Pension from the 4th March.
I do not have any experience of video assessments. There is some information on video assessments in the BenefitsandWork guide here-

Thank you for getting back to me, David. Much appreciated. I did read that my TP would end when I had a change of circumstance and I assumed that no longer being a carer, would be a change and that I would now lose the protection, along with the SDP and EDPs I received.
Apologies if I'm confused.
Warm regards
Cherry
