Is it worth doing a MR was created by Hx
Hello, I recently got awarded PIP, standard DL and enchanted Mobility.
I was one point short for enhanced DL.
I wanted to ask if it’s worth appealing to get this one point.
I did not got a point for using a pill box.
I take a lot of medications throughout the day and use a pill box to remind me to take my medications and at the right times. I have forgotten several times to take my BP and cholesterol medications (which is extremely high due genetics).
I got the opportunity to talk to a case manager about this when she called me to confirm my bank details. She explained that people with severe mental health problems would only get the point for needing this aid, which I do not have. But she did say if I want to do a MR I can and they would look at my whole award again.
I also use a pill cutter, can this be considered an aid? I use this because I have difficulty swallowing my tablets and need to cut them into smaller pieces to make it easier to swallow.
I don’t know if it’s worth appealing and risking my current award.
Also, I was awarded for 4 years because I have been referred to the Pain Clinic and because of this the letter says my condition is likely to improve. I have had my health conditions for many years and have already exhausted all available medications and treatments with no improvement. My GP only referred me as a last resort as she doesn’t know what else to do. Is it worth appealing the length of the award as well?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Hx
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
Only you can answer your question, if you applied for a MR and it all went to pear shaped you can always appeal.
We would advise you to run it by your local Welfare Rights Organisation for their advice.

FWIW Hx, the person I'm representative for gets the point for medication aid for dossette boxes from the pharmacy [which the GP has to prescribe] which are needed due to brain fog from Chronic fatigue syndrome. Does also have anxiety and depression.
Best wishes with pursuing this.

Thank you for your reply Denby.
I have brain fog due to fibromyalgia (and several other conditions for which I was awarded PIP).
I explained in my PIP2 form that my husband helps me fill up my dossette box every week.
The assessor wrote in her report that ‘she doesn’t report any difficulties managing her medication’ and ‘although memory issues were reported, she was able to provide a complex medical history and the assessment was completed without support’.
I had my form in front of me and I was reading my answers from it.
Also, difficulty and pain due to swallowing makes me reluctant to take my medication.

You're most welcome Hx. The person I represent has fm too. Miserable, my sympathies.
What assessors don't acknowledge is that adrenaline from the stress of being assessed will create temporary better brain function. So you can coherently read out the form you're clutching.
But this and any effort [attending a medical appointment, wedding or funeral for example] will be paid for with maybe days in bed.
Re the swallowing, I can't easily do it with just liquid, I take each of my tablets with a mouthful of food once I've chewed it. One per mouthful.
Hope you can overturn the injustice,
Denby
