PIP review query was created by killbot99
So I had my telephone assessment for PIP review on 19 Feb, lasted about 1.5 hours. The nurse was very nice, I requested she record it and I also coverttly recorded it. I received my copy of the PA4 I requested this week and I have a couple of questions please.
It looks as though I have scored 14 points for daily living, enough for enhanced, this is more than my last review when I was on standard. Will this be backdated. I submitted my PIP review form in March 2024 so its been over a year or will my new award ( should it be approved by DM) start from when they make their decision?
Do DWP usually go with the recommendations on the report. I was told by that that its about 6 weeks from when they receive the medical form to when you hear from them?
Although I was very nervous about the assessment as my previous reviews have been paper based I do feel the assessment was mostly fair. I was disappointed that I wasnt awarded more for not being able to prepare food, which I cant. I only scored 2 points for this, and I was very clear about the reasons why I cant ( dizziness and balance issues). And it looks as though she's only recommended a 2 year review again which is incredibly frustrating.
I have Ehlers Danlos amongst others and its genetic and not going to get better. I wondered if its worth appealing the short award or not? If so what are the risks?

Hi killbot99
I'm glad you had a good experience as far as the telephone assessment went.
1. Most of the time, the decision maker follows the view of the assessor - but sometimes they award more points and sometimes less.
2. You can write and ask for the length of time to be extended. A few people have had success in this. There isn't a risk to asking the question and pointing out that your condition is not going to improve. Just make it clear that you are only challenging the award length (if that's what you decide to do). Of course, there is a small chance that the decision-maker may award you longer. I notice that you say that you have Ehlers-Danlos "amongst others," and I, therefore, suspect they are trying to say that another condition you have may improve - hence the short award length. It is getting rarer and rarer for people to be awarded long awards, even with genetic conditions.

Hi Killbot99
This is a link to a members post who has just successfully challenged the length of an award. They had been told 4 years and now have a ten year award.

As soon as I answered their post - I thought of you.

I appreciate the reply, I have Ehlers Danlos, Fibro, Osteoarthritis as well as severe, chronic vestibular migraine and balance weakness in my right ear, hence the balance and dizziness issues. I'm about to try a new migraine med ( yet another in a long list) so am hoping to get some relief but my other conditions are not going to improve and are getting worse as I get older, hence my frustration with yet another short award.
I am seriously considering asking for the award length to be looked at again if it turns out to be 2 years.
