sleep apnea was created by onestep
I have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and may soon have to wear a breathing mask in bed when asleep. I already get Pip but only scored 8 points when last assessed (2019) and was wondering if this condition is considered a reputable condition when it comes to being assessed for Pip and what areas it is most likely to score points in. The condition makes me feel tired all the time during the day and makes concentrating difficult and I often fall asleep at the drop of a hat which sometimes can cause everyday problems. Looking at the scoring criteria its hard to know where this condition would fit in and give me a realistic chance of upping my score.

Hi onestep

Yes, sleep apnea is a 'reputable' condition, but it's hard for me to say where you would score points, because this is individual. You know how it affects you. Go through every question and see if it applies to you. If you are short of sleep and have difficulty concentrating it could affect your safety in the kitchen, preparing food, it could make it unsafe for you to be in a shower, you may find that you avoid people socially because of a lack of sleep. Have a look at the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews and go through the questions and see what might be applicable - every person is different.
