I am am on maximum dose for MH condtions, and over the years exhausted myself and NHS mental health services but am now applying for pip, I haven't spoken to my GP in about 3-4 years about anything mental health related and my last conultant was 6 years ago along with the community mental health team

should I put the consultant psychiatrist and or the comminuty mental health nurse on the form "Health or care professional details" not sure if this will detratct and look like there nothing wrong because i havent seen anyone in ages, fact is Ive given up on getting meaningful help from nhs

Or should I put them down and explain this in additonal info - also concerned I don't wnat to overload the asseor and flood them with non essential info so they miss the other bits but also don't want to allow them to assume Im fine becasue I havent seen anyone (I am on maximum meds but dont know if they even look at that)

thanks all

Hi big_vern

I would be wary of putting down anyone from the mental health team unless you can guarantee what that person would say about you and your condition if asked, but it is up to you.

I have a thought - but would be interesting to see the more expert opinions...

Could big_vern meet GP, and explain review is happening - GP does not know so many relevant details - what would GP do if asked by DWP- would GP send fairly blank reply, or more detailed (maybe inaccurate) reply? (I think this site has a blank version of the form sent to GP/medics - could print and show GP to ask)

If GP would send a fairly blank reply, then at least naming the GP could look more favourable instead of not naming anyone?

Hi AVMSurvivor

I didn't say - don't name the GP. A person can always name any professional but refuse access to their notes. The problem with what you suggest is that people have no control over if or when the DWP might contact them. GPs are reluctant to add any such information to a person's medical records - so he could hold the conversation, but will it be remembered accurately.
