Friend accompaniment at JCP (UC) was created by Gaz2025
Hopefully a quick one, sorry if posted elsewhere.
A friend has been called into JCP tomorrow re. their UC. They were prepared to go alone but have anxiety etc. so I've offered to go in moral support (to just observe but keep schtum), but I've just thought - do we need to/is it better to advise in advance or if we just turn up together are they likely to accommodate without issue (again, assuming I play no part in the thing other than being present)?
Thanks!

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Gaz2025
It should be ok without needing advance notice.
The only issue that may arise won't be with the DWP staff but with the security guards.
And that depends on the particular Jobcentre , if there have been what they call " potentially violent " claimants in the building the security guards may refuse attendance to anyone without an appointment. But generally speaking that is unlikely. You could always send a Journal message to the Work Coach advising of the attendance.

Thank-you, David. I was thinking if JCP aren't going to mind then keeping it more casual might avoid giving my friend another thing to stress about, but I'll weigh up the risks and depending how they are consider suggesting messaging or help with writing a quick note - much appreciated.

I experienced this with the JC guards, I went with my step daughter once and they absolutely wouldn't let me go with her and told me to leave! Thankfully she was ok with it but it was pretty rubbish of them.

Quite, I expect most if not all of us would find that totally out of proportion. Funny I was discussing with my friend how they want to have a friendly chat and be your mate, yet wouldn't respect my friend enough to give them a private room without leaving the door open to the lobby, as if there's any real risk posed by a regular one-to-one across a desk, especially while security roam about mere yards away (incidentally, bored out of their minds because nothing ever happens!). Hypocrisy and needless securitisation; such is the holy DWP eh, law unto themselves.
