I received a message today saying I was receiving two and a half years back payment of Universal Credit Transitional Protection. Apparently they say I've been underpaid. They say:
'This is because there has been a change to the amount of transitional protection you are entitled to.'
A welcome surprise of course, but not something I was aware of at all. I just assumed they'd worked out the transitional protection correctly at the beginning of my claim. I just wanted to flag this up. Maybe I'm an isolated case? In any case, it would at least be good for people to check if they have been paid the correct amounts in the past. I swopped to UC from ESA with severe disablement premium in Oct 2022 because I moved to a new area ie. change of circumstances.
I had no idea of what transitional protection amounts should be for which cirumstances. I wondered if it would be good to outline what the amounts are/should be, somewhere on this site. Many thanks, Cat
Thank you for the interesting post. There is one qualification I need to make which is that when you move area and claim UC , as you did, you don't get any Transitional Protection at all. So I assume that the back payment relates to the Transitional SDP element. Could you check your letter and let us know please?
