Hi, I have received a letter from my local council today, saying I have missed some council tax payments, this is because of the being migrated. Ive had nothing but problems. ESA have sent me a letter saying i will get a set amount per week, UC are deducting more.
Why do they not communicate? How can i find out who should pay my council Tax?? I really donot need letters saying i am in debt
It is an emerging issue that some Councils are getting extra Council Tax via the UC Managed Migration. When the old Benefits claim is stopped then the Council get a notification of this from the DWP and they stop all the Council Tax Benefit ( or Council Tax Reduction Scheme ). This means a new full bill is automatically generated. Councils say that it is your responsibility to inform them that you are on UC even though they could find out if they took the time to check the IT system CIS Searchlight they share with the DWP. Also a lot of people on disability Benefits are being told by Councils that for the first time in many years they are expected to pay a lot more from their Benefits towards Council Tax as they have changed their calculations.
