UC Migration Form - Unexpected Question (not shown in Guide) was created by Jon
Hi,
I completed my ESA-UC Migration form. I had read the Benefits and Work Guide for this.
However, there was a Question that I had not expected, and I don't think is mentioned in the Guide.
I don't remember the exact words but it was along the lines of:
Which disability affects you the most for not being able to work.
I had to choose between Mobility and Daily Activities.
I am affected by both equally, but as its not a hand-written form, you cant add that.
I was totally thrown by this question, and I just chose Mobility.
Now I am starting to panic, as I don't know the basis for them asking that.
Will they assume as I'm only affected by Mobility that I am able to work.
Has this Question been added last minute, so too late to be in your Guide?

Isn't that part of the bonus 'Equality questionnaire' that comes with (but they insist isn't actually part of) the claim form? I don't know if it's a bonus to everyone's claim or just a random selection, but according to them it's a separate thing from the claim itself. They say they don't use the information in relation to your claim but for 'information gathering' 'to help them fulfill their obligations under the Equality Act' or something.
You go through Nationality/Gender/Religion tick-box options and at the end there's Disability, where it's just a single option 'select a box' list of various separate disability 'categories'. Having multiple physical and 'mental' health conditions myself, I wasn't happy about answering it that way but in the end I just chose the option that affects me the most. I think 'prefer not to say' is an option in most if not all questions (it certainly was in the Gender, Religion and Sexual Orientation categories) but if you say that regarding disability I don't think you'd get away with it.
Supposedly it's anonymous, but as it's attached to your Journal I highly doubt that it is in practice. In the introduction to it they say that it doesn't impact upon your claim, although at the same time it doesn't appear to be optional as it stays in your 'To Do List' until you complete it...
It does seem a bit suspect the way they've framed it. But then if the DWP told me that Monday was the day after Sunday I'd be suspicious.

Your last sentence made me smile.
After my last experience with DWP of supposedly calling me to 'confirm my identity' was changed last minute without notice (and not shown in my journal as a change by them (suspiciously). I told them I had confirmed my identity as part of completing the Migration form, by placing my mobile on the chip in my passport, and then having a message on screen to shown its been accepted.
So why do I need a meeting to confirm that.
I have Autism so meeting in person is out. I dont know how they intend to confirm my identity (again) over the phone unless they have a voice identification software that identifies me by my voice lol.
