Claimed UC on 17th April 2025. Was advised in my statement that followed my assessment period was from 17th April to 16th May 2025. I had my 2 week run on of Income Based Esa on 29th April which doesn't affect my UC . I got a unexpectant payment of New Style Esa on 13th May. I called them and I'm entitled to it. Now I do know that is deducted from UC . 2 days before I made my claim fir UC. I received my usual fortnightly Income based Esa. . DWP gabe taken £609 off my first payment and will not give me an explanation of what other than the New Style Esa has bern deducted. I've put it in my journal 7 times. Called them twice. The first advisor didnt know about the 2 week run on of Esa , HB etc. Both times they said they asked a case manager to look at it amd would respond by next day at 6pm and nothing!! They have either taken my 2 week run on off or the esa I received on 15th 2days before I made my claim. I have bern in touch with my Msp and my Mp and both are conta cting the Dwp. Had a response from dwp today saying the esa deductions have bern checked and are correct. This is doing my head in. I thought they couldn't deduct the run on nor money you got before you made your claim. I got my info from the great guides on here. Has anyone else been through this??Am stressed.

The £609 payment is an average over the year of payments you will receive from CB ESA / New Style ESA.
You will continue to receive fortnightly CB ESA / New Style ESA payments as long as you are still in support group / LCWRA.
Others will correct me if I'm mistaken.

Hi, yes that sounds correct. The 609 is your New Style esa for the year divided by 12. This is deducted from your uc entitlement.
The deduction has nothing to do with your old esa 2 week run in. Your new style esa is the part that was not income related and does not carry over to uc. Your new style esa is made up of the standard plus the group you are in element. The disability premium part was income related and moved over to uc. The rest as others have been finding out during migration is contribution based. This has not been clear on dwp letters so people assume that it was all income related only to find they are now getting new style esa too. It is true by doing the maths that income related claimants (i.e those who are not on new style esa) get more as they don't get a full months worth of esa deduction which is what is happening unfortunately when they have not had a full months new style esa. Hope this helps explain the confusion.
