Hi Navigator

Thanks so much for your reply.

I've just checked my Council Tax Notice and it states "if the exemption no longer applies you should contact xxxxxx Council within 21 days of this occurring......."

There is no change my eligibility criteria, other than me migrating to Universal Credit. I had planned to inform them that I had been migrated to UC but there is nothing on the Notice that suggests I need to so I think I'll just leave it. However, I have heard of quite a few people who have been sent council tax bills after migrating, like yourself, and this worries me.

Thanks again for sharing your experience and advice, hopefully I won't need to challenge this, but, then again........

Best of Luck with your Cancer treatment, I am 9 years (and counting) in remission from Breast Cancer.

Kind Regards

Hi soulgal

You need to inform Council Tax of your move to UC when you get your first UC payment. A lot of Councils are recalculating the Council Tax bill differently where there is UC as opposed to ESA and the bill will vary from one Council to the next.

Hi Soulgal,
Just a quick update:
I have just received an apology and a reassurance that my CTR will return to being paid in full, and the bill of £0.00 is in the post.

This was despite my receiving a bill just days earlier, asking me to pay, £1,200. Turns out computers are not as reliable as everyone thought they were, and they make mistakes.

So I would say to always complain if you think your CTR has not been correctly applied, to your account, especially if you were in receipt of Full CTR previously before migrating over to UC.

Thank you for your best wishes
Kind regards
Navigator

I have just migrated from legacy ESA IR SG to UC which went incredibly smoothly untilI received a council tax bill saying my income has increased since migrating under UC, which it hasn't the weekly amount is exactlythe same so I have appealed as they say I have to pay 25% of my council tax now, reducing my income by £50/mth losing some of what was my EDP/SDP because my local council in Huntingdon says the transitional protection payment is extra income under UC, which is ridiculous. I have also cc'd my local MP in so shall wait to see what response is.

Anyone else have the same issue under mandated migration to UC now receiving council tax bills?
