PIP Award Review was created by Louise
Hi, last year I was awarded PIP at the higher rate until 2027. However today I have received a letter to advise that I have review in August 2025 to check I am still on the right amount of PIP and if I don't attend the appointment they will stop my payments. This has caused me massive anxiety and I feel sick as I was not prepared for this to happen, I was prepared to have this in early 2027 before it is due to expire. Is this right that they now put you thought this anxiety every year? My circumstances have not changed, but I guess they want to cut what they pay. But this has massively impacted my health today. Any help or advice will be gratefully received.

Hi Louise
I'm sorry this is causing you so much stress. The DWP has the right to review any person's benefit at any time, regardless of the end date of their current award. They often send out review forms up to 12 months before the end date, so you would have expected to receive a form in 2026.
But it sounds as if you are only being offered an appointment without sending in a review form. I know this is scaring you, but I would ring and ask what the 'appointment' is about. Is this a full assessment? It might be scary to ask, but you don't want to find yourself having a complete assessment without warning, or the chance to prepare properly. Don't assume that the outcome will be negative.

Thanks for your response, its appreciated. I have actually dug out my original award letter, and it states that "we will also contact you while you are getting PIP to se if your needs have changed and to look at the amount you get. This will be after 11th June 2026." I was prepared for June 2026, but like I said before this has really caused me to stress as I felt they stated facts in my original award letter, not them changing the goal posts. Also they have put a home phone number down, that I did not give them in my last application, it was a number from approx 15 years ago, and it belongs to an abusive ex partner, I received PIP at the time I was with them. This has caused massive anxiety too, that if they call that number they may inadvertently share information about me. I am struggling to give them a call to talk about this, as I feel as if I can call them about this data issue, they may say I am fit enough and take my PIP away, when all I want is to feel safe. I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that I am not going mad, and that even though they have told me one thing and done another, I don't have a choice but to go through with the assessment and therefore be put under even more strain and anxiety. Why should life be this hard. You think you get a little bit of a break or a reprieve and then they come and smack it out of you and cause distress.

Hi Louise
It can be very doubting but as BIS has stated you need to give them a call for two things:
1) explain to them the issue with your phone number, make sure they delete the old phone from your record
2) check what the appointment is about.
