If I move do I keep my TP? was created by AnonymousM
Hi, I was thinking of moving in with a friend and renting a room off them to save money. But I am now worried that it's a bad idea, as I see a "significant change of circumstances" will cause me to lose my Transitional Protection payment?
Is this true if I go from a 1 bed need to a shared need, or if I move to a different council area? If so, it may not be worth doing, as any money I'd save would be eaten into by losing just over £200 a month.
Also, if I rent a room alone I'll only get the shared rate of LHA? Even though I'm over 35? What if the room has an en suite bathroom, does that make a difference?
It all feels unfair, because if I get the shared rate and lose my TP I'd actually be worse off than I am at the moment, even though my rent and bills would be a lot less.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi AnonymousM
Your question is outside the remit of the forum. Your TP may get eroded depending on your circumstances.
We would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Specialist; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies in your area advicelocal.uk

I've seen lots of questions about transitional protection on here, why can't mine be answered?

Hi AnonymousM
TP is outside the remit of the forum, some moderators have specialist knowledge on UC and can answer your question, others do not and they do not have all your circumstances, advising you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation, who can take all your circumstances into consideration is the right way forward as we do not want to give you incorrect information.
