Is there a way of me finding out when I first claimed income related Employment SUpport Allowance I’ve changed to new esa and universal credits and just been made aware I could of been claiming housing and council tax support, my council website says I might be able to have it backdated but they need to know when I became eligible, I seem to remember reading when you make your claim for new style esa and universal credits your old claim is closed

Hi Gail

You are correct, you can still claim CTS as it is separate from UC, but I doubt it would be backdated unless you received a qualifying benefit such as the Daily Living component of PIP and you were eligible to claim a SDP.

You need to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
