Hi All,

just looking for some advice as i am feeling severely anxious. I arranged an appt with the welfare rights officer to complete my form. He has cancelled the appt 3 times now and will tell me he didn't arrange the appt even though i have messages confirming the appt. He doesn't answer the phone or respond to messages. On friday he finally rang, he was telling me that they will use the fact that i have children against me, i explained that i have a lot of intensive help to look after them. He said he had never seen so much evidence. He was telling me not to send my evidence and he wanted to change the descriptors for which i have been awarded points. I do not want this i have already been awarded significant points and get enhanced anyway. I found the whole process extremely distressing and had a number of panic attacks. I just would like the award for a longer period of time as my conditions and the impact that it has on my mobility and daily activities of living is not going to change, the impact is significant and lifelong. I asked if he could request a paper based assessment given the amount of evidence and he said they wouldn't do that. I am just overwhelmed.

He said he would complete the form
and send it off without me seeing it which i am unhappy about

I am really worried now as i have waited a number of weeks for this appt and feel that i have wasted my time.

Any help ir advice would be much appreciated

Thankyou

Hi Bek_A

I'm sorry that you find yourself in this position. It's hard to advise you what do here. If you already have an enhanced award the fact that you have three children clearly hasn't counted against you - so I don't know why he said that.

I don't understand why he refused your request to ask for a paper-based assessment. Anyone can request a paper-based assessment - they won't always grant them, but he should have made the request on your behalf. I am also wary of someone saying they won't send in the evidence you want to submit.

I don't like organisations that refuse to give a client a copy of what they have written - it's not fair - you need to know what has been said.

If you have agreed that he can complete your form - there is very little you can do. If you feel strongly about the evidence you want the DWP to have, you could send it in yourself with a covering letter, because at least it would be put onto the system.

If the form hasn't been sent off and you believe you could do a better job - you could say that you no longer want to use his service and send it in yourself. I understand that this may be too much for you.
