DLA was created by kenny45 ord
Before I was awarded DLA i was contacted by letter saying "We cannot pay DLA yet,as we have contacted your doctor".When I was eventually awarded DLA I contacted my GP for a copy of what ever he sent and was told that there was nothing on record to say that my GP had been contacted. This seems very strange.Does anyone have any ideas as to what may have happened?
Thanks

Hi,

It maybe an admistrative error, either on the part of your GP surgery, or equally the DWP. You can request details of what the DWP hold on you with regards to your claim, so you could see if there is a Doctors letter included with the information.

Alternatively, its is not unheard of if GP reports are very late at being returned, either the DWP requesting one of their contracted doctors (called EMP's) visit you, or they can make a decision based on your claim form alone.

You say you have been awarded DLA, is the award what you expected or believe you are entitled to?. If not you can ask for an Appeal (or reconsideration where your claim is looked at again by a different, usually more senior Decision Maker to see if it can be changed - this is done during the Appeal process in any case).

However this course of action (Appeal/Reconsdieration) does carry a small risk that your award could be reduced, (as well as staying the same or being increased). We normally advise a claimant to get face to face advice from a Welfare Rights Advisor who can go threough your current award to assess how 'safe' it is if you appeal.

There is a guide to Appealing in the members area - linked from this page:

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants

However there is a time limit of one month to submit an appeal or reconsideration.

Details of where to obtain individual face to face advice is in the Forum FAQ's here:
