i would like to tell you about my experience of applying for DLA. Did the usual reseach on the net and formed the opinion that it was going to be a uphill battle (there lots of negative comments) So decided to subsribe. reading the guide took about a day !!! their seemed to be lots of questions that were repeated so i did a pencil copy. left this for a few days (remember that there is no rush realy. So the day dawned took the day to fill it in cross-referenced letters and sick notes etc ( you have to do this dont expect the assessor to sift through your paperwork make it as easy as possible ( they are just like you and me working away just think how you would feel faced with letters, sick notes to decide which are relevent.)dont worry about repetition. Its possible your claim may be segmented and given to more than one person. So get ORGANISED start a file keep everything. Do not send it off missing evidence you have time to chase people for reports letters etc.
Now for the hard bit write a letter outlining your capabilitys dont expect your doctor social worker to know a lot about you (yes i know you see them regulary but your just a patient, harsh but true) so lay it out two or three sentences about walking, eating and that killer your continence. Remember that its no big deal to them although but accutley embarressing to you. send it to you doctor, consultant, socialworker etc when the information is asked for then will have it scanned and to be frank they will look at your letter and basicly use it ( its easy for them ).
So if you have read this far you may be wondering how my claim went well
Higher rate mobility and middle care component, first time, back pay from application date.So to succeed read the guide and follow it and be organised and copy every thing you send after all its worth real money to you for me 5K tax free realy 7K if it was taxable and usally 2 to five years so 25k that alot of money so take your time, their is no conspiracy to stop you.
