Regarding the Refusal of Medical Treatments/Tests

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone could help me here.

Since I had surgery last year which was meant to help me but has rendered me in great pain and unable to walk I have decided to use complimentary therapies to help me and refuse any further invasive proceedures on the NHS.

I am currently taking medication for hypothyroidism which I am on for life and have currently registered with a new GP because I have moved. The new GP now wants me to do a blood test to test my levels of Thyroxine (the medicine I use) just as part of a regular test.

But I have decided I do not want any more needles stuck inside me or any more invasive proceedures such as surgery.

If I refuse to have a blood test will it affect my benefits?

I understand that it can affect your benefits if you refuse certain medications but it has always been my understanding that invasive proceedures can be refused without benefits being affected. And having a needle stuck in your arm is regarded as an invasive proceedure which I do not want.

Can anyone comment please?

Many thanks. :(

Hi Avalon .

if you look at my post HERE you will see excerpts and links to current legislation and Decision maker's guides..

If it becomes an issue , or even before it would be advisable to take both medical and welfare rights advice.

Just a caveat. If you don't have your levels checked, they can go too high and that can be as bad for you as them going too low. Please do research this and make sure you know what you are risking before continuing to take a thyroid supplement without regular blood tests. If you don't want to discuss it with your doctor, there are plenty of reputable sources of information on the Internet to help you make up your mind about this.
