Can mum apply for CA for me? was created by millymoo
Hi all

I am really hoping that someone may be able to clarify for me. I am currently on HRC DLA and the letter states that i can apply for CA. My mum does so much and spends half her time with me without her i dont know how i would manage, so in theory mum is my carer. The problem that i have is mum is 67 years old so would normally be retired, is there any reason why mum couldnt claim for CA? Also how would this affect my DLA? I would be grateful for any advice on this.

Kind regards
Julie

Hi Julie,

There is no upper age limit for claiming carer's allowance and it doesn't affect your DLA. However, it can affect other benefits that you or your mum might be getting, such as income support and it overlaps with some benefits.

So, it's vital that you get advice about both your own benefits and your mum's before deciding whether to make a claim.

You can read more about carers's allowance here:

Carer's Allowance

Good luck,

Steve

Hi Steve

Many thanks for that!! I have made an appointment with CAB to go into this further.

Kind regards
