Allowances etc due to house move was created by mistynow
Moderator, please disregard this post if not relevant to this forum.
At present due to recommendations from Neuro. Rehab. team we are looking to move house but are terribly confused as to how this might affect our benefits.
Scenario ..Owner Occupiers Mortgage Free.
I am DLA/SDA (HRM/HRC)
Himself is 67 on AA. plus State Pension and pension credit guarantee.his AA/SP only claimed in April this year.
Our query is, if we sell our property for x, new property will be y and cheaper as we have no savings to cover shortfall, will the benefits agencies take into account matters such as us paing stamp duty, agents fees, solicitors fees etc out of the differential between x znd y ?
let me call the differential z, and if we have a little money left after all costs are paid to maybe buy a new cooker or carpets what figure would we be allowed z before they say we have 'savings' and we begin to lose premiums ?
Sorry for any confusion but himself was actually given incorrect advice by Ageuk in May and fortunately for us the Benefits Agency spotted we were not getting severe disability premiums so not sure where to ask advice.
We are frantically saving as much as we can from our benefits, easier in this warm weather, to help with the move. What are our savings limits as we are getting very scared of falling foul of the rules
Thanks for any advice you may be able to offer.

Misty, we moved four years ago. It used to be that you were allowed to keep £14,000 back for one year to cover the costs of cookers, fridges and any necessary adaptations. They did take into account stamp duty, solicitors fees etc.
I don't know how much things have changed, but it's worth looking into.
Good luck!
Faery.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I think that I will have to look into it further.
I was somehow expecting that if the Solicitor did a proper statement of 'proof' as to expenditure involved with the house purchase plus sale of present home they would accept that but will as you suggest look into it further regarding what little we may have over for items and hadn't dare thought of adaptations
