Claiming IS on IB/DLA was created by rowland
The benefit rules changed in April for those who receive child maintenance. Previous to this time the income was assumed to be the individual parents, not the children who it is intended for. This means for myself I can, in theory, apply for income support on top of my IB and DLA. Question is though do you think applying for income support would trigger a review of my disability benefits. I am at the moment exempt from the PCA on the grounds of SMI. I think I would be entitled to IS as I get full CTB (and they work out income in a similar fashion). Part of me would be glad if they did take me off disability benefits as I don't like all the uncertainty.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

All I can say is that it shouldn't trigger a review of anything else. If you are living alone (apart from the children) then you could well be entitled to IS as well as IB.
I get IB and because I also get DLA then the amount of money the Government says I need to live on goes up. That automatically entitled me to IS as well, although I had to tell the DWP as they never pick up on these things and pay out without being asked.
With IS you'll be entitled to free eye and dental checks, vouchers for glasses, free prescriptions and your HB/CTB will no longer be means tested.
However, as IS is no longer available for new claimaints I don't know whether you would be triggered for an early move to ESA. You can only ring and ask.

I had to stop work in 1997 due to illness/disability caused by ankylosing spondylitis(AS) which was made much worse by a non fault impact car accident.
I was given a choice of incapacity benefit or income support if i passed the means test.
I had savings of less than the maximum amount allowed to qualify for IS so I applied for that because it was £4 per week more than IB!Plus of course, prescriptions etc were free.
In 1999 I was awarded the middle rate care and higher rate mobility components of DLA,both awarded for life.
I told the DSS that I was now getting DLA and enquired if I still qualified for income support.
They said that I was entitled to income support and because I live alone, would also qualify for severe disabled benefit with my income support.
For several years I`d get an annual form to fill out to tell them whether I was still ill or not.
I wrote an extra piece on one form staing that my illness was chronic and would probably get worse rather than better.
3 or 4 years ago,I was called in for an interview and told that they would not want to see me again as they knew who i was and what was wrong with me.
I now sit wondering when or whether i`ll be called for an ESA interview!
