Bit of advise required please was created by apple
Hi everyone I'm new to the forum, I would like some advise please if anyone can help.
My partner and I are both disabled, we recieve both high rates of DLA, and income support, my daughter is our carer and receives carers allowance with a bit of income support, as she is young we wanted her to get a job and have a life, we don't want her looking after us for ever, so thats whats she has done, she has been offered a job and plans to take it, now my question is how will this effect our benefits? we get help towards our mortgage and council tax benefit as well, we do pay a portion of the mortgage ourselves as the benefits do not cover all or it.
We have relatives that will split up caring for us between them, my daughter will start work at 7am and finish at 3pm then she will take over our care again and do the night shift with us for want of a better discription, so she won't be free of that completely. Your advise would be much appreciated and if you've got this far reading this, biscuits and tea thanks xxx

Unfortunately you will need to seek advice from your local CAB or Welfare Rights office, as your situation is too complex for us to provide an answer in the forum.
That said, your daughter no longer receiving Carers Allowance, should have no effect on your DLA payments, however, you may be able to claim additional benefits depending on your circumstances, which is why you need to seek advice from someone who can look at your situation in detail.
Hope this helps

Hi thanks for your reply, I will seek advise from an adviser.
Another quick question in the meantime, my daughter will stop getting the carers allowance now, so can we claim this allowance to help towards our relatives cost who will be helping us?

As Gordon has already suggested you should seek advice from A Welfare Rights Service, as we can only answer general benefit questions that we normally deal with and give help with the B&W guides.

Hi again just a bit of feedback and another question First of all incase it helps someone else in the same situation our housing and council tax benefits have not been affected by my daughter starting work, she has of course lost her care allowance which is understandable, although she does still take over care when she comes home from work, my question is as she has lost this allowance and we have to pay various relatives for coming in and helping us until my daughter gets home can we oursleves claim this allowance to cover what we pay them for there petrol etc ?

It is technically feasible for you to claim CA for your partner and your partner to claim CA for you, however, you must bear in mind the committment associated with Caring for someone, for example; you must be available 35 hours a week.
All of this has to be put in the context of your own conditions and the fact that you are receiving HRC. One or both of you Caring, would be a Change of Circumstances and would require you to notify the DLA Unit.
