ESA result make any difference to DLA review? was created by Melanie Tudor
Hi,

I got the brown letter recently and was pleased to be put into the support group after being on WRAG for a year. I phoned up DWP and they said that on the computer it read that I was to be in support group 'for a year at least.'

I will have been on DLA (HRC, LRM) for 2 years at the end of March, and when this decision was made, I was in the WRAG group.

When my DLA renewal comes up in April, should I send in all the information I did with my recent ESA claim? Would the fact that I am in the support group be taken into account for my DLA renewal, or do I just have to treat it like a new claim on its own?

thanks

Whether or not you are in the support group for ESA will not determine whether you get DLA or if so, at what rate because the criteria are very different.

However, there may be information and evidence relating to your ESA claim which would help your DLA claim. You should be aware that the DWP decision maker can take into account any information received from Atos or elsewhere in relation to one benefit when considering eligibility for another.

Hi Mel, thats great news getting into the support group. I thought however that if you were put in the WRAG you immediately qualified for the Support Group so you should have been in it this past year or have I got this very wrong?

Hi,

To claim ESA one must reach a total of at least 15 points against the Work Related Activity Group (WRAG) descriptors. That places one into the WRAG. If one can then meet one or more of the further Support Group Descriptors then one is placed into the Support Group.

It is fully explained in the 'Understanding ESA' guide accessible from this page:

I see, one more thing, my Dr has wrote a letter for me saying I would be at physical risk if I were found not to have limited capability for work related activity or should he just have said limited capabilty for work, Which do you think would be more beneficial to my case.Thank you very much for your help, I don't know what I would do without the advive I get from here, thanks again
