called for a back to work interview was created by hassled mum
I sent back my ESA50 this week plus a copy to the dm as I don't want things going missing in the system or the xmas post. My deadline for return is the 16th Dec so plenty of time. This was a renewal of my award that was given last November when I was placed in the wrag ( i am on contributions based)I have also recently renewed my dla (18th Oct) and was awarded hrm & hrc indefinately. Last week I receied a letter from my local job centre plus to go in for an interview with a personal advisor to discuss the support available to me in taking the "first steps back to work" my problem is that over the last year my health has declined which was the reason for the early dla renewal, I have not yet heard from the dm or ATOS as they will have only just recieved my form and evidence, I am not well enough to return to work if ever again as I have a degenerative chronic life long neurological illness which renders me bed ridden for most of the time. Is this standard procedure of jc+ as it would seem logical for them to wait until the outcome of my latest esa renewal, they letter says that I have to attend unless I have an acceptable reason or they will reduce benefit. Ant thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, it s unlikely that your JC+ Office will be aware that you are being re-assessed.

My best advice is for you to contact the advisor listed on the interview letter, and explain the situation, mentioning your decline in health and your DLA award

It may be possible to have the interview deferred until a new Decision has been made on your claim, I'm guessing that you are hoping to be placed in the Support Group.

If they won't move it, then ask for it to be held over the phone.

Unfortunately, if they won't play ball, then you will have to decide whether you can attend or not. Failing to attend can lead to sanctions, but your poor health could easily be taken as Good Cause, so they are not a natural conclusion.

Hope this helps

Thankyou Gordon, yes that helps a lot, I will phone them tomorrow and see if they will defer, if not I will arrange for someone to take me as I won't risk a sanction, I am hoping for support group but I suppose it is all down to who reads my case, although when I phoned dwp to aske when my esa 50 form would arrive the man I spoke to told me the date and then said that they would try and avoid a medical (I didn't have one for the recent dla renewal)Even if they defer until after christmas it would help as I have been to the hospital this week and then again next week the day before jc+ want me in and it really impacts on my health traveling to see the consultants.I am happy to do a phone meeting so that could be an option. many thanks for your help and the guides were invaluable when I was completing my esa50, (i think they might be slightly shocked at the amount of evidence(mostly consultants letters as I have 5 who care for me!)
