ESA50 too big for the envelope re FAQ was created by mermaid
Apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place. Just read some of the FAQ as requested and noted the above FAQ which I feel may be incorrect.
I posted my ESA forms this Saturday (not having read this FAQ at the time which advises putting all the forms in a bigger envelope and then taping the original one onto the outside), and did exactly what this FAQ mentioned by chance. The man in the Post Office said that they would not accept the letter as Freepost as it was meant for a Large Letter size only (I think this is A5), and I had added it to an A4 envelope.
So I was charged for this in addition to the fee for Recorded Delivery. Thought you might need to know this to perhaps amend the info on FAQ.

Thanks you for letting us know.
The FAQ was created from a post by another member who had done this successfully.
Has anybody else had problems with postal changes when returning their ESA50?

Hi mermaid, I had exactly the same situation this time where as in the past when I stuck the original to the outside of the A4 envelope they deducted the cost of the original post cost from the amount I would have to pay for the larger envelope and special delivery. I couldn't be bothered to argue the point that part payment was already covered as too exhaused after the marathon of form filling. Technically they should deduct the payment of the cost paid on the return envelope provided by dwp/atos or who ever and then charge a balance for the larger heavier envelope and special delivery.

Yes, I thought afterwards I should have made the same point that you do above, hassled mum, re deducting the difference, but like you I was too tired to think of it at the time!

Just as a matter of interest, do you have to use the original envelope at all? Perhaps you may have spilled something on it, so I presume it would be ok to use a 'normal' envelope and write the address on it (and pay postage)?

No, you don't need to use the supplied envelope, however, one of my reasons for suggesting it's use a "label" was that some members, in the past, have mis-addressed the envelopeJust as a matter of interest, do you have to use the original envelope at all?
