Am I missing something here, or is this normal?

Having read other threads relating to this subject, although I cannot find the really long thread, it advises sending a copy of the ESA50 form and supporting evidence to the address printed on top of the form. In my case the pre-printed envelope and the address on top of the form are both the same, and both are addressed to Newcastle. There is no mention of Atos in the address on the pre-printed envelope, just The Pension Service, Newcastle.

Hi,
Normally the ESA50 is returned to 'Medical Services' or similar which is ATOS. If people wish to they can also send a copy to the Decision Maker at the DWP office dealing with the claim.
Off the top of my head, I think in Newcastle, both the DWP and ATOS are co-located at Arden House, Gosforth but in separate bits of the building. However this is not the 'norm' throughout the country and Medical Services offices are often located far from DWP offices.
However, despite the co-location, it may still be worthwhile sending a copy to the Decision Maker at that address as the ESA50 will go to the Medical Services bit there.

I guess it will do no harm, apart from increasing my postal costs, in sending two copies of everything to the Newcastle address, if Atos are based at the same address then hopefully one copy will go to them and one copy to the decision maker.

Thanks for that Pete, I omitted to say in my original post that I live in France, and all benefit related documentation, i.e. IB and DLA all come from the Newcastle address, sorry if I made you assume I live in Newcastle. So maybe the claim will be treated differently because of not being resident within the UK. There is no mention of Medical Services anywhere on the form or envelope, only as mentioned The Pension Service, and no mention of Gosforth in the address.

Hi,
Another of the DWP's services currently based in Newcastle is the Exportability Team who deal with overseas claimants within the EU. That is probably why your forms need to be sent there.
